  1. Here is a start,

    - sinkholes, vertical shafts, disappearing streams, springs, —complex underground drainage systems and caves

    - rain falls picks up CO2 which dissolves in the droplets

    - rain hits ground, goes through the soil and picks up more CO2 and makes weak solution of carbonic acid

    - bedrock can dissolve especially if limestone type

    — archaeological value

    — Provides jobs and recreation

    - recreational cavers explore, photograph (helictites for example)  and map (spelunking)

    - study of caves and other karst features (speleology) - structure, physical properties, how formed, history, life forms -cave hydrology and biology, geochemistry, surveying and mapping

    — Construction around karst areas

    - ground surface instability

    - unpredictable foundation depths

    - road collapse, or washout due to sinkhole development

    - deep openings  in the bedrock

    - near-surface cavities and caves with thin ceilings

    - requires special ways of building roads etc
