  1. coz mother tongue is your root.

language and culture have a great influence on your personality.

  2. One problem in many English speaking countries is that children of immigrant families (perhaps second or third generation) do not learn their "mother" tongue and so cannot even communicate with their closest relatives, like grandmothers or grandfathers. So a good reason to learn and maintain one's "mother" tongue is to be able to keep close to and learn from your relatives.

  3. To many, it means the keeping of your identity and your heritage. That's all. In a world where we get intermixed with each other so easily, it is nice to have a bit of our own identity firmly grounded in ourselves. It is who we are - what we are - from where we came.

  4. It's a good way to stay in touch with your heritage.  My family came over from Italy and learned English, they knew they were in a English speaking country so they RESPECTED the people of this country and learned the language. As kids I listened to my family speak their native language (in the privacy of their homes) but my elders insisted that we learn English because it is respectful. We still attend heritage festivals but WE ARE AMERICANS, NOT ITALIAN AMERICANS. In America WE SPEAK ENGLISH. I hope everyone keeps up traditions and their heritage but we need to be respectful of our country, which by the way is the greatest on earth. Our families came here for a better life and got it. Newcomers should be respectful, learn the language, BECOME A CITIZEN, don't use our tax system for your support, and go ahead and BETTER yourself but don't do it on our backs. We don't mind helping, but you need to try too.
