Question:

Why is killing animals worse than killing plants?

I'm not condemning all vegetarians for not eating meat. This is just targeted towards the ones who feel it is wrong to kill animals. My family bought a black angus last year and it was raised without being abused or injected with any weird drugs. And it was killed very quickly with a single shot to the head (I did it myself). But my question is why is it wrong to kill animals but not plants that are alive?

  1. Plants dont feel pain. Also, you're not killing all plants you eat for example most fruits and picked off a tree without killing the tree.

  2. Because plants do not have central nervous systems, or brains, or emotions, or thoughts,

  3. Plants don't feel pain.

But if you really care about the plants, you should consider just how many pounds of plants it took to feed that poor cow you raised for food. He probably ate more in a day than a vegan could eat in a week.

  4. Because plants don't have consciousness, or feelings?  (we assume...)

  5. It is not wrong to kill for food.

  6. Plants are not capable of suffering (they have no brain or nervous system). Animals (for the most part) are capable of suffering. I don't eat animal products because I think it's wrong for living beings to suffer for my food. I don't necessarily oppose taking a life, because some living things (like plants) can't suffer. So what I eat is based on suffering, not life. Even if plants could suffer, a vegan diet would still cause less plant suffering, because it takes more plants to raise animals for food than it does to just eat the plants.

  7. that's like why is killing people worse than killing animals.

if we don't eat plants or animals, then what would we eat?

i guess since we don't have  a personal relationship with plants, then it's okay.

no, it's because of the lion king, you know, the circle of life.

  8. its not.

  9. What you did or didn't do when it comes to your personal farm animals has very little to do with what goes on in the rest of this country and even the world.  You are not running a mechanized factory farm so you can't assume that everyone takes good care of their animals.

More than 90% of US farms are factory farms.

Plants do not have central nervous systems or brains.  They don't feel pain and they don't have a reason that they would have to feel pain.  Animals feel pain stimuli to aid them in self-protection...It's a reaction that helps with our survival...for example we pull back when get burned.  Plants don't need to have that as a defense.  Some plants are poisonous and that is their defense.  Also some plants have thorns or barbs to protect them.

By eating animals your are killing way more plants than a vegetarian does.  It takes more water and vegetation to grow an animal into adulthood that it would take to just eat the plants and drink the water.

Plus, most of the pollution problems we have are caused by animal farming.  If you don't believe me google it.

So, until your lawn screams when you cut it, you really can't use the "plants are alive too" argument.  Sure they are alive, but they don't feel pain.  Cutting your grass and skinning a cat are 2 very different things.

  10. What was said above me and fruits can't be tortured the way animals ARE not can. If they have been bread for meat and send to slaughter houses. I know there's odd occasions when people treat animals right and then kill them for food (I don't think it's okay then but it's obviously so much better than what usually happens).

By the way, if people were'nt eating animals, there wouldn't be as many. They wouldn't be making as much methane gas. Vegatarians wouldn't be eating the solution but we are removing the problem. It's better to destroy the problem than counter it.

  11. nice to know. you can go on with that, hopefully with a cloudy consience.       plants do not have feelings.

  12. its not its better carnivores are helping the planet animals emmit methane gas that is a abundant greenhouse gas, we eat the problem vegetarians eat the solution so its wrong to kill plants
