Is knife crime on the rise because of a social breakdown in society. Parents are too scared to discipline there children as they may get punished for it, Teenagers dont feel safe and they seem to think its cool to carry a knife which it isnt. I think there are many dep issues with knife crime. One being that children/teenagers dont feel protected, safe anymore, they dont trust there parents, teachers, peers to protect them which could be a cause of knife crime. Perhaps teenagers/children dont care anymore about other people? what do you think?

  1. I have a question for you.

why do you think knife crime is on the up?

Did you see the news last night?

knife crime is at its lowest ever- but due to the media its huge.

2008 is the safest this country has ever been. News is bad news thats all. so if you stopped reading your local tabloid and actually looked around your neighbourhood- its actually not that bad.

kids get this from the parents- "oh no u cant go out its not safe after dark" well, why isnt it? because u beleive its not.

theres always been gangs on street corners since victorian times and there will forever.

  2. Because teenagers feel as if noone cares for them anymore!

school teachers are full of supply teachers who cannot teach or discipline.

Our youngsters get failed in the education system and they feel there is no other way to get what they want so they turn to crime!

many grow up in one parent families with just their mum who tries her hardest but she is no man and is not tough enough, so therefore she is not listened to plus she has to meet their needs financially so she got a job and went back to work and is never at home,  poor kid feels alone so he teams up with a gang where he has to prove that he is bad by crimiting a crime and he gets accepted.

The only man he sees on the tv is a criminal which he idolises..

All the media/TV does is glamourises gun culture and the more they do that the more youngsters will turn to it as they think thats whats cool and it will also make them feel like they will need protection to walk the streets as everyone is getting shot/stabbed.

I'm not surprised that guncrime is at a low but it is in the spotlight to mess up our childrens heads... oh dear!

    Perhaps glamourising good behavour!

  3. Simple, two words.  NO DETERRENTS.

Most people who carry offensive weapons dont

worry about the consequenses, because they dont usually

    exist.

Until the people in power start spending the kind of money

thats being squandered in Iraq, Afganistan, and every other

lost cause that you can think of, then maybe we might just get somewhere.

The lottery spends our money on good causes. (supposedly)

The goverment spends mostly on lost causes.  (definitely)

  4. There's always been knife crime. Just the media is focusing on it alot more than usual!

My belief is, focusing on it more, creates more of it!

If i was a kid and heard about all this "knife crime" i'd be scared enough to believe and want to go out with one myself.

  5. Not all, but a lot of it is down to the stupid definition of 'knife crime'.

I'm an avid mouintain biker, and mother of a 16 week old girl. I have a degree, and I am certainly no yob.

Yet I am classified as such because my bike tool has a knife on it. I need that tool to fix wheels, chains, everything on my bike. Yet legally, I can be put in jail for 5 years, because I am not allowed to carry the bike tool in public.

According to the police it should be kept at home. What use is it there, what am I supposed to do if my chain comes apart 5 miles from home?

People can no longer be practical. Multi tools are banned, and it's ridiculous.

I don't think it's as bad as people say, the law has just made a criminal out of me for no good reason.

  6. I hate it!!! i wonder what im bringing my unborn child into :-(

Im going to be such a strict mother, my child will hate me lol.... ill be wrapping it up in cotten wool for years!

My views are the same x

  7. i dont think knife crime has been on the rise in the last few years i think it is just more publisised and even if it is the same as what it was 10yrs ago it would seem like its on the rise because of how much we arwe seeing of it right now

  8. knife crime is not on the rise. incidents of knife rime are actually decreasing. however incidents of knife crime involving young people is going up. as to why i can provide no hard and fast answers. it is worth noting however that knife crime is not representative of our culture. yes we have problems but not all kids use knives, there are plenty of happy, law abiding good citizens who are young. despite what the scaremongering newspapers in the british national press would have us believe.

  9. Its a domino affect. This is what happened at my sisters school.

    1. One group started bringing knives, and were threatening one other group, so that other group felt the need to bring them too.

    2. Other people saw the knives and did not feel safe

    3. everyone starts bringing them to protect themselves- anyone who does not have one doesn't feel safe.

Lack of teachers rights to search mean there is nothing to stop them from doing it.

  10. There're too many people out there having children but not looking after them, leave the children to wander around the streets and can't be bothered to discipline them nor educate them.

Children who don't have love and proper care at home,go out too much and end up hanging out with the baddies, they weren't born a "knife criminal",they were just left out alone and got influenced by the wrong people.

No communications for those children, they found no where to talk, they had no one to rely on and turn to when they needed someone.

slowly, they gone onto a wrong path, where violence occurs.

why are parents too scared to discipline own chidren? have they forgotten that they have the responsibilities to teach them since day 1 the child was born?

being scared is not the excuse to "abandon" your own child, I meant emotionally or even in some cases physically.

if you bring a child into this world, then you ought to love him, care for him, teach him, discipline him, guide him to the right, pick him up if he falls, praise him when he's right but make him learn when he's wrong and correct him.

we are the parents, if we are scared to be punished for children's fault hence we turn our back to our children, where shall they go? who shall they trust and turn to when they need some guidance?

don't forget, since day 1 you decided to have this child, your love&responsibility should be always there for him/her,this committment should be eternal. if you cannot commit yourself into it, why have the child in the first place? use protections, or stop using the children as excuses to claim more benefits!

it's not the children don't care about other people anymore, its they have never been taught/shown how to care.

when a baby was born, he's never born an evil. they're like a piece of plain paper, what they grow into depends on how you decided to "paint" it.

for those, who have been in the "baddies" long time, this government shall do some real punishment to them despite of the ages. if you kill someone, you go to jail, don't care how old you're. that's the way you shall learn!

but i know, there's no way to stop certain people to have s*x and have children, human right, isn't it? so, crime is on rise.

for those who care, spend some more time with your children, show them the right and the wrong, teach them morals and discipline them.

if we keep our children warm and loved, who really wants to become a criminal?

  11. I agree with what you have said in your question. A lot of the rise we are seeing is due to "gang culture" and a sense of belonging felt by these people as they all have the same ideas and 'code of conduct', including being armed. A sense of security - perhaps, but thinking about it - if no-one carried guns/ knives in the first place - this would rule out the need for these individuals to carry weapons for 'self defence', in fear of others being a threat to them.

  12. I agree although the safe issue is a excuse for them.

Its to act cool and be popular.

  13. Well there's no deterrent to carrying a knife - and remember it's mainly those that don't have a life that will resort to carrying a knife - we should pity them until we can get them behind bars for a long time!

  14. Parent's are letting their children buy and watch or play certificate 18, DVD's, Cd's and Computer games.

There also isn't a suitable deterrant for carrying a knife, let alone using one.

    Maj

  15. because it starts off when your friends in a little group then you have a argument with someone you know alot of the time they were friends. then it just gets formed like that. the way some see it as you cant leave if you did people would still class you as being 'in that gang' so they stay so that they are atleast protected well thats what they think. but to knife someone is heartless.

someone i knew died yesterday you might have seen on the knews but its just shocking.

if you read the Bible it tells you in revolations whats going to happen in the last days. and just look now.

  16. I think that they are walking in fear!  Do you blame them?  I would be affraid too.  Knife crimes are taking a rise because knives are conceal-able.  Guns are too much of a hassle to get anymore because of parents lock them up, now.  And you can no longer get bullets from Kmart since Columbine.

Of course, there is no sense of security with teachers and security officers because when we do a background check we always seem to discover that they are criminals and predators, as well.

I think teenagers care and love just as we do.  If they don't feel safe and carrying a knife is second nature.  How do we give them security without locking them down in "Home-school" which makes them socially retarded to a certain degree.  We need to make them feel safe again.

  17. Immigrants.

My dad came up with an interesting theory the other day,he says that he thinks that since all these immigrants have came over from poland and africa e.t.c it is them that are carrying out allot of the killings with knives, because they dont get caught or they are illegals so there d.n.a cant be traced without records they dont exist in this country. In places like africa they resolve issues by chopping each other up with machette's and poland has allot of racist thugs.

It may not be the truth but still ist an interesting theory because all of the knife crime started when the immigrants started coming over. Before that you rarely heard about it on the news.It could very well just be gang violence between youngsters but if it was gang violence then tehy would be killing each other with guns.I know its not hard to get a gun if you know the right people in a place like london even though they are illegal.

  18. Chavs

  19. Cos chavs cant win an argument with words so they have to use a weapon. A bit like terrorists in a way.

  20. i think the media has whipped it up into a frenzy and have made it out to be something new, when the fact of the matter is it isn't. I'm not naive enough to think it isn't bad because it is but i don't think its any different to any other year :)

  21. Gang culture and knife crime has always existed and is just as bad now as it has always been. In fact statistics actually say that crime in the UK is at an all time low and it only seems as though it is on the increase and has been brought to the forefront of our conscious minds due to the media frenzy that has been created due to the parents of those affected by it standing up for the cause and trying to stop it.

Due to the publicity and the fear it puts in our kids a vicious cycle seems to be building. Kids feel they need to carry a knife to protect themselves from others carrying knives, and so the cycle continues...

  22. Well, I see it like this: Knives are easily assessable these days. I understand they're baking them into Subway sandwiches and giving them away randomly.
