Question:

Why is location search (zip code) not an option in Yahoo! Groups? 3,000 groups can come up under one topic!!?

Meetup.com allows people to search for groups by zip code. This is key. Specifically if people are wanting to meet in person, one must be able to filter the search by location. I don't want to search *members* by location, but *groups*. If Yahoo! had this option I would strongly consider moving my Meetup group to Yahoo!, since Yahoo! is free and Meetup charges by the month. As it stands the set up of Yahoo! is not conducive to local potential members even being able to find my group.

  1. for privacy/ stalker issues, I think it's a bad idea. could put kids at risk too.

Yahoo! is doing pretty well with group memberships as it is

Yahoo has searches by state. many states have towns with more than one zip code as well, meaning a more pin pointing to location of members than just by city/ town, which could be a bad thing.

Zip codes wouldn't mean you'd find a group any easier, more so if there simply isn't one.
