Why is looks and beauty now a days more important then our society?

Why do girls feel that beauty protects, hair, makeup and designer clothes

is more important than politics, knowing about whats going on in the world, current events, and our society?

If its for a guy.

I'm sure a guy would much rather an intelligent girl. Why act easy? make something of yourselves.

I agree with you. I think people today are just getting stupider because of what they see on television. All they see are amazingly Gorgeous people and over half the time their pics have been altered someway. There is this unreachable standard of beauty. And it is done to get attention from the guys because a lot of the girls are gold diggers really. I bet half of the people in America don't even know about the war btwn russia and georgia, i guess they are too busy applying make up. I think that in the end guys want the average intelligent girl, but before they find the one they want to mess with the kind of girl that is fake and easy.

hrmmm...it seems like your a little close minded if you think girls put themselves together just to look nice that it is meant to impress a guy...thats totally FALSE!...some of us use our talent(s) to put together a presentable look with hair, makeup, clothes, etc as an art...sounds crazy, but a hairstylist is an artist with hair, a makeup artist - well the professional name states the obvious, and a fashion designer needs art skills not just with drawing but also visualization...

and how does acting easy play into all this? i think you are mad at the girls who you want to be like...the pretty ones, perhaps? or the ones on the cover of magazines?...and just a little FYI: not all girls that wear trendy clothes and have nice hair and makeup are dumb and unconnected with the world...not all men look for a political genius..there are other ways to be intelligent, such as with literature or science

honestly, i dont think beauty is an issue with society...its only an issue with people like YOU, who may not want to take the time to put on a little mascara or something...i'm not saying every girl/woman needs to be dolled up all the time, but its sort of nice not to look you just rolled out of bed and went on with your day without glancing into a mirror, ever!

ugh! i'm gonna stop now before this ends up being my next essay!

I like to be well-rounded. I enjoy things dealing with beauty, I love design, fashion, and I have a distinct style that people recognize as mine. But, that's not all. I'm also intelligent, with a strong personality, and I don't like when people can't have a real conversation about something important or meaningful.

Not everyone - I have designer everything and get my hair done at least twice a week and I am proud to say that I am pretty smart. Law, Politics, Business, Languages are all a big part of me.

For me it's very simple:  Politics and current events are boring.  Shoes and dresses are fun.

That being said, I'm also a huge history buff and an avid reader/writer.  I'm also big into art and art history.  So it's not like I'm totally shallow or anything, I just find fashion and beauty a good form of self-expression.

Not all girls feel that way, that's a very stereotypical thing to say! I hate being judged when I go out, people might see me dressed up and assume that's all I'm good for! I'm a straight A student, just because I take pride in my appearance doesn't meant that's all I care about. =]
