  1. My guess is that it has something to do with where we feel physical symptoms when we are experiencing emotional stress.  Think about it, when you're scared or heartbroken your breathing changes and your heart beats faster to get more oxygen out for your fight/flight response.  Seems natural then that we'd associate the chest with emotion and the major organ in the chest is the heart.

  2. Heart is the only organ in the body, which dipicts reflexes of type and intensity of emotions. This is the reason that ECG records varience as and when we face extream intensity emotional situations of happiness or shock. Love is a pleasure attribute for any one to enjoy, which release the emotions in abundence directly emanating from the heart.

  3. It isn't, really.

It is just a traditional belief that love came from the heart - other cultures believed that it came from the stomach.

When you are excited or nervous (as the first flush of love often makes you), you experience an adrenaline rush. This makes your heart race, and also makes your stomach spasm ("butterflies in your stomach").

This is why older belief-systems attributed feelings to those organs.

In fact, it is your brain which is the seat of emotion.
