  1. Manchester leads the way again! Today Manchester, tomorrow, your town. A survey revealed:

"Britons are more miserable and down-trodden than anyone previously dared believe, a survey has said. A quarter of the population fear a "hopeless future", one in three feels "downright miserable", and one in 10 thinks he or she would be better off dead."

  2. As a Mancunian I feel I am ably suited to answe this question. It's a million times better than it was during the 80's, and the IRA bomb ins 1996 caused a hundred million quid's worth of improvements in a split second. The newly revamped city centre is very nice, and the Castlefield area is still too cool for school. Yet there is no escaping the fact that it's f#cking depressing living there. It pisses down ALL the time, there are scallies in shell suits & Rockports on every corner, and you can't have a decent motor without taking it to bed with you to keep it safe.

I suppose I could sum it up by saying I loved Manchester so much I emigrated to Australia as soon as I possibly could.

Still, it's a sparkling paradise compared to Liverpool....

  3. I agree with Ivan. The study relates to self-harm and has not been linked to Manchester being a depressing place to live. Perhaps you could provide evidence to support your theory before shooting your mouth off.

  4. I live in Manchester and I'm not depressed. Manchester City itself is fantastic... a buzzing place to be, full of life and culture. Some of the surrounding districts are pretty depressing though.  :-)

  5. It could just be that there are a large number of young people in the city of manchester (university students) who make up the bulk of self harmers. Oxford was also mentioned in that piece and Oxford also has a large number of students. That's my guess.

  6. every now and again the newspapers find/make up some stats to cover a slow news week... one week is blank is the murder capital of europe the next week blank is the worst place for education

    not really news just filler

  7. Interesting take on the actual facts. Do you work for the Daily Star?

  8. you bet ye it is.

  9. I had an Answer to this but I have changed my mind By the way it is not.

  10. Alex Ferguson, what a miserable b******.

  11. Hello,

(ANS) Your twisting the facts here, this article DOESN'T say Manchester IS the most depressing place to live in Europe.

**NOTE:- Your wrong!!, it says that out of x8 European cities in the study sample Manchester had a higher level of self harm in male & females in the study.

The article doesn't actually state Manchester as the Most depressing place or city in Europe.

    Ivan.
