According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass -fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of biofuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.

-Hemp fiber paper resists decomposition, and does not yellow with age when an acid-free process is used. Hemp paper more than 1,500 years old has been found. It can also be recycled more times.

-Eco-friendly hemp can replace most toxic petrochemical products. Research is being done to use hemp in manufacturing biodegradable plastic products: plant-based cellophane, recycled plastic mixed with hemp for injection-molded products, and resins made from the oil, to name just a very few examples.

  1. There is no real reason to make it illegal.

Aside from it being declared a controlled substance.

Basically it impairs judgement so its considered bad,

although most would debate alcohol is far worse in every aspect...

dont forget it wasnt to long ago alcohol was illegal in the US too...

  2. Henry Fords first car was apparently made from hemp and ran on hemp oil.

There is a shop in Glastonbury, Somerset, Uk, called Hemp in Avalon, they guy there called Free 'Rob' Cannabis is a mineful of information and has loads of samples of the different uses of hemp.  Animal bedding, ropes, clothes, tea, seeds to eat, bricks (hempcrete), board, flooring, shoes etc etc

Basically it all comes down to money and power.

Its one of the most complete nutritious foods for humans, every part of the plant is useable and it doesnt deplete the soil like cotton and other plants.

Henry VIII pass a law stating every 60 acres of land tilled one quarter had to be hemp for the crowns royal navy.

Its a hard fiber to process so farmers werent keen to grow it because of the hard labour involved.

1928 saw a treaty signed under the Dangerous Drugs Act due to a testimony from Turkish and Egyptian delegates.  No one challenged their claims of the breakdown of bodily functions, eventually leading to insanity.'

    The USA banned it later.

If you look at the website referred to below it gives loads more info. or you can ring 01458 835769 Hemp in Avalon Shop

  3. is gives the goverment another reason to put us in jail. i dont use the stuff but i know many who do to deter pain. others just like the feelings it gives u. whatever the case maybe, isn't alchol used in the same way?

  4. They cant tax it like they can cigarettes. Because you cant make your own cigarettes, they make a lot of money selling them. They could add things to marijuana to sell them as they do cigarettes, but people wouldn't want that and they'd continue to purchase marijuana off the streets without all the added stuff.

They cant tax it, they make it illegal.

  5. because people dont have open minds. if they toked then they would understand. sigh.

  6. Originally (almost 100 years ago) it was a bigotted statement by William Randolph Hurst who used it as a racial slur against Mexicans who were fighting to regain territories in Texas which were stolen from them by Americans.  Cotton farmers who could not compete with the cheaper and stronger hemp climbed on the band wagon and formed a special interest group which convinced the government that this drug was the biggest problem the country faced.

Surprising then that Henry Ford grew vast fields of the stuff for fuel and lubricating oil, even though it was illegal.

In the end it all comes down to money and bigotry.

  7. It should be legal. I think prescription narcotics are causing more problems in our society than pot ever would. People are clogging our prison systems over pot. Its crazy! If it makes sick people feel better why should we deny it? Instead they are gulping down narcotic pain pills.

  8. It seems hypocritical that marijuana is illegal but alcohol and tobacco are legal. All 3 should be treated the same under the law. If I had my way all 3 would be illegal, but I know that is impossible, so why not legalize marijuana? Even the PRESIDENT has used it. Come ON!.

  9. I believe that the answer to that question is pretty simple, marijuana is on the controlled substance list due to the fact that the government is not able to fully control the growth and distribution of it. Unlike Tobacco which can be regulated due to the growing, drying, and curingThe process of growing and drying Marijuana is not as complicated as the process of Tobacco. Yet if the process was the same and it could be regulated and controlled by the government, then Marijuana would most likely be legalized and regulated by the government so that they would get their profits in revenue. This is just my opinion on the subject but it is most likele the closest to the truth. Having grew up in Florida and worked as a CNA with spinal injury patients in Minnesotta I have seen the benefits that marijuana has for the disabled, and I totally support legalization of it. However in reading your article above Hemp contains very low reserves of THC and would not have the same effect as smoking Cannibus AkA Marijuana. Various Island countries have been using hemp for decades in making clothes, ropes, thatching, and so many other products. However it is the bud from the plants that get smoked and not so much the stalks which is used for hemp.

  10. You are right and it should be explored more except industry likes money and industry doesn't want to lose jobs to a different product.

Even smoking shouldn't be illegal considering the alternatives. It is illegal for a cancer patient to smoke pot and it is legal for the patient to take man made pharmaceuticals that have side effects that can kill you.

Sell pot, you are a criminal, sell vioxx and you are a doctor.

We can't keep abusing forests and call it sustainable so hemp industries should be encouraged as well as supported.

  11. Hemp and marijuana are two different things.  Industrial hemp is legal in Canada (at least) while marijuana is still a controlled substance.  Hemp is big business in Canada.

I get it!  Green living!  That's a nice pun!  You get a star.  :)

  12. I heard another reason was to encourage Mexicans to go home/stay in their country. No one will ever admit to that, though.

  13. figure it out

marijuana became illegal when synthetic fiber hit the market ,

before all jeans ,ropes, sails, jute bags etc were made from marijuana fiber .

they could not let this giant competitor which was also a superior product the remain operational .

and because of that it will always be illegal

Irrespective of all the good qualities the plant possesses such as a basis for building material, capturing carbon, recovering tired soil, medicinal aspects for asthma and nervous disorders ,natural fiber for clothing and bags

    and much more

  14. i tip my hat to you..... hemp is fastest growing plant and sequesters largest amounts of carbon compared to any other crop.

Plus i like to smoke it as well.......

Until then pass that s*** to the N***$ on your left!!!!

Coz its available on every street corner for 20$ a pop but we cant make clothes and fuel out of it.......... Pffft smells like government conspiracy files to me.

  15. Keep in mind that hemp and marijuana may be derived from from cannibis, they have completely different properties. This is why both are illegal to grow in the U.S. however hemp is legal to have in possesion, while marijuana is not. Why? because you cannot regulate this difference, because they are almost identical plants in bloom. So if one gets you high because of 20% thc and one doesn't with1% thc how can you regulate growing the plant for industrial puposes. There is not a clear way of protecting the public. This unfortunatly is a major hold up on enormous economic gains. On a good note, we are able to purchase hemp grown out of country in order to use the technologies. Thats why we even know about them they already are in use. They just havent proven economical campared to the status que techniques.

  16. Because tobacco growers have a lobby and marijuana growers don't.
