i've been smoking weed since i was 14 yrs old and i still continue to get good grades and am perfectly healthy.

so why should weed be illegal..

-you can't get addicted to it.

-doesn't cause any diseases that we know of. (unlike tobacco which kills thousands of ppl. each year and yet still remains legal).

so why not legalize it..it's been proven to help with pain and what not.

in my opinion harry j. aslinger.. did what he did out of spite, racism and greed. . \

  1. I think the reasons probably have to do with the fact that when you take it, your judgment changes.  You're no longer "sober".

However, if that was the case, then why is alcohol O.K.?

It's confusing.  I agree that mainly alcohol is much worse than marijuana.

In general, I like sobriety.  In my sobriety I see a lot of prejudices, one being this one, this preferential treatment of alcohol in many countries.

It is stupid that essential you're made into a criminal by enjoying a joint once in awhile.  Of course the reality is that even cops smoke up.  Most Westerners are fairly tolerant of marijuana.  I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find anyone over 25 in any Western country who hasn't partaken in the sharing of the peace pipe.

  2. marijuana can cause Emphysema and a lot of lung conditions.

it is also not legal because it has mind altering effects and paranoia, and yes u can get addicted to it, i have seen proof of this in more than one case!

  3. Drugs should be legal in the U.S. to take the profit out of it. Countries where drugs are legal have registered drug users and have less crime.

  4. It was because of racism, and ignorance. It was banned as a way of trying to get all the Mexican immigrants to self deport back in the early 1900's. So, they started pushing this idea that marijuana makes you violent, and used that to get the gullible public on their side.

Why it's still illegal is a good question.

  5. You are an idiot there are plenty of health risks to marajuana among the smoking a driving argument the fact that a teeneager is 50 % more likely to not graduate should they be a stoner, you also become an idiot. Type your questions in google before u go asking!

Effects of Marijuana on the Brain. Researchers have found that THC changes the way in which sensory information gets into and is acted on by the hippocampus. This is a component of the brain's limbic system that is crucial for learning, memory, and the integration of sensory experiences with emotions and motivations. Investigations have shown that THC suppresses neurons in the information-processing system of the hippocampus. In addition, researchers have discovered that learned behaviors, which depend on the hippocampus, also deteriorate. Read More>>

Effects on the Lungs. Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. Continuing to smoke marijuana can lead to abnormal functioning of lung tissue injured or destroyed by marijuana smoke.

Regardless of the THC content, the amount of tar inhaled by marijuana smokers and the level of carbon monoxide absorbed are three to five times greater than among tobacco smokers. This may be due to marijuana users inhaling more deeply and holding the smoke in the lungs.

Effects of Heavy Marijuana Use on Learning and Social Behavior. A study of college students has shown that critical skills related to attention, memory, and learning are impaired among people who use marijuana heavily, even after discontinuing its use for at least 24 hours. Researchers compared 65 "heavy users," who had smoked marijuana a median of 29 of the past 30 days, and 64 "light users," who had smoked a median of 1 of the past 30 days. After a closely monitored 19- to 24-hour period of abstinence from marijuana and other illegal drugs and alcohol, the undergraduates were given several standard tests measuring aspects of attention, memory, and learning. Compared to the light users, heavy marijuana users made more errors and had more difficulty sustaining attention, shifting attention to meet the demands of changes in the environment, and in registering, processing, and using information. The findings suggest that the greater impairment among heavy users is likely due to an alteration of brain activity produced by marijuana.

Longitudinal research on marijuana use among young people below college age indicates those who used have lower achievement than the non-users, more acceptance of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, poorer relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends.

  6. It's psychologically addicting. You want more of it. There are no physical consequences from not getting more of it.

You feel like you're doing okay, when your reflexes and mental powers are demonstratably impaired. You know about those "insightful" conversations when you're high? To someone not high; sober, they sound like complete ramblings.

Marijuana is smoked unfiltered. It has the same lung cancer effects as tobacco with the same amount of tar. Since marijuana smoke contains more tar, it can cause MORE lung cancer than tobacco (yet observe that tobacco is legal for adults).

It helps with pain and glaucoma. Illegal products which have a strong market demand have a bad effect on crime and funding of the criminal element. Marijuana destroys lives BECAUSE it is illegal more than it does on its own. It does damage lives on its own: Don't kid yourself.

Yet... a 14 year old is NOT an adult. Children should NOT be taking drugs, except, perhaps, by prescription for a solid medical reason. It would have been illegal for you to smoke tobacco or drink alcohol when you were 14. If marijuana would have been legal and treated the same way, it STILL would have been illegal for you, but not for an adult.

As far as the legalization goes, people can grow marijuana themselves. It would be outside the control of governments to tax or corporations to make profits from. It probably won't happen.
