  1. We must learn all we can about our oceans in order to save them. If the seas die, so do all living things.

The marine ecosystem provides us with a large amount of our food supply through invertebrates (e.g., shrimp, lobster, crabs, mussels, clams), fish, and seaweed.  Ocean circulation affects our weather and climate.  A significant portion of international commerce occurs via shipping across the oceans.  The ocean also provides income to many nations through tourism and recreation.
