  1. I come from a family where my parents have been married for more than 30yrs. I would very much like that for myself and my children. I always had my dad around and I believe that my parents marriage is affecting my relationships today in a positive way. I am old enough now to realise that it must have been very hard so many times for the both of them. They are best friends now.

As for the divorce rate- I believe that it has just become to easy and we are also a society that over anylise things. If you look for faults you will find it. I however commend people on taking the plunge and getting married rather then just having kids and not be bothered. At least they tried to make it work.

  2. To most women ( and some men ), marriage remains a true sign of security  ( debatable though that may seem ... ).  The problem with marital security is that is is constantly threatened by outside pressures .... work, stress, money, debt, cost of living etc ... and as these pressures rise in the modern world, so do the divorce rates. I know that a lot of people regard the need for that ring on the finger as old fashioned, but I personally believe it's an institution that should be respected. Old fashioned values can sometimes be the best ....

  3. I don't believe in marriage, I have been in a relationship for 12 years and have a 10 year old son.

Have never felt the need to "publicly declare my love".

The money that would be wasted on a ceremony gets put to better use!

  4. It's often important for legal reasons. But apart from legal/financial reasons I find it pointless. Why bother with a piece of paper and elaborate ceremony just to say "I love you and want to be with you forever"?
