Why is medieval/Rennaissance music kind of dark?

I still like it.

But I'm referring to lute, recorder, harp, double choir music, gregorian chant.

  1. Dark ages equals dark music, maybe? I am not the brightest light bulb in the world but I still know a+b=c.


  2. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

    They didn't consider it dark (nor do I). In their eyes our music probably would seem barbaric.
