If you look at the country relative to Antartica and the Jetstream, it says it all.

Melbourne just happens to be at a "sweet spot."

I agree. The weather in Melbourne is constantly changing. E.G. This morning it was raining then it became sunny, then windy, cloudy and rainy. Even the forecast gives wrong information at times. I think it is the situation of the country in general.

its our coastal location, we get the strange hot almost tropical sometimes weather from adelaide and the cold winds from the antarctic
