This particular phenomenan created by nature and god enables women to conceive and the human is cradled in her womb.

Be it man or woman we all come from that womb so why this mindset?

  1. It's not dirty! There is no filth involved. In fact, I'm willing to venture that area of the body even during menstruation is far cleaner than hands are. Many of these people who claim menstruation is dirty wouldn't think twice of shaking someone else's hand. You don't know where that hand has been just before you touched it. For all you know it could have been used for nose picking or to scratch an itch in the butt crack.

  2. Its beacuase of loosing the lining of the womb each month and the smell that sometimes lochia gives off.  This comes from long ago when women had to go around yellin unclean unclean when on their cycle.  Also part of it is that because of the bleeding and the fact bleeding signifies an open wound that can't be stopped.

  3. Yes, it is a mess, but so is s***n...

However, one of the above is easier to predict...

Thanks for the good view of menstruation.  It never stopped my husband, nor most of my boyfriends.  It's not unclean, just a different color.

My white pants have a special hatred of "that time."  It seems that my body knows and hates white clothes and responds with an especially large flow, in an effort to rid my closet of the hated color - white.

Most of the mindset is based on ignorance or religious beliefs.  The flow certainly isn't dirty.

Margaret Cho has some hilarious things to say about, "if men had a period" in her second filmed concert.  Warning - she is graphic - but funny.

  4. Because when people think of blood, they think of pain and death...

  5. It is because in prehistoric times women were seen as the origin of all life (they didn't know what do men and s*x have to do with childbirth), and men were envious, so the patriarchal religions were born. No wonder that in most religions God is portrayed as male. The male God was born out of the wish that males too should be able to create new life. Everything that was connected to the fertility of women was regarded as unclean because of this envy. That includes menstruation and childbirth too (after childbirth a woman was seen as unclean for a certain number of days).

Personally I feel happy when I'm having my periods because it reminds me that one day I'll have children and it's wonderful. Never had any cramps, I think those who have cramps are not comfortable with their femininity and their suconscious mind is rebelling against the fact that they have to endure it, that is why it is painful for them. But this is my theory only and I'm not a psychologist, sorry if I offended anyone.

(Sorry for my bad English, it is not my native language and I cannot always write correctly when I'm sleepy.)

  6. In this day and age as well as many other, doctors thought of childbirth as the woman being sick and the only way to heal them was for birth to happen.

s***w men.  All women go thru this, all females.

If you don't like it, reincarnate yourself as a SeaHorse.

  7. ...Because it's sticky and smells bad?

  8. dont tell me how to think. nothing "should be revered as" anything.

  9. I think because its blood and it smells and its messy.

  10. God commanded the Israelites to go through a purification process while they were menstruating, and afterward.  It is unclean, because blood harbors bacteria and grows bacteria quickly, this is why they were commanded not to eat blood as well, and why we bleed everything we kill before processing it.

  11. I am so glad that you feel that way.

  12. A biological process which actually has nothing to do with men! Be glad you don't experience it, but do not denigrate it. Do not revere something that costs the average woman a goddam fortune in her life...in UK we pay too much for sanitary protection as though its something we could do without, and when it is advertised they tell us how much blue liquid they absorb! What's that about? What about the blood?

And as for all the mystic goddess womb b*****cks try enduring cramps, then see how 'eastern' you feel.

  13. Revered?  lol you obviously did not have to deal with it every month.

Unclean?  In a practical sense it can be quite messy.

And kids are a wonderful gift from God - most days.  Of course with a house full of teens there are days I wonder ;)

  14. Well, it isn't particularly pleasant to have blood gushing out of you for several days a month.  It is a natural bodily process and I don't see any particular reason why it should be either revered or regarded as unclean.  It's just a simple biological process.

In societies where women are considered 'unclean' when menstruating, they are often cloistered away for the course of their period, not allowed to do any work or anything, and possibly regard this as an agreeable rest from the normal daily toil.  so it may be an advantage to be considered 'unclean' for a few days every month.

  15. This is your opinion, and not the opinion of those of us who have grown up into adults.

A woman' period is a natural process and nothing more.

  16. more men should think like you :)

  17. Because it is unclean. It's very messy and smelly I hope that all women clean themselves, especially during menstruation. I know I would. I don't consider it a bad thing, just a necessary part of life that is unclean and pretty disgusting.

  18. It is dirty. The body is eliminating waste. Much like urinating or defecating. It might be natural but it's still dirty.

  19. why should it be either considered unclean or revered? it's just a biological fact of life. what on earth would all these men do if they cut themselves? would they be too squeamish to clean out their wound and bandage it up?

  20. Wow, yeah, that is an interesting point. It is however, often painful and men seem very scared of it and so shy away. It has become something which you just don't talk about normally, like s*x, which is also where we all come from...

  21. http://bible.cc/leviticus/15-19.htm

The Bible has a section on our monthly "friend". I think it has something to do with this book in the Bible...and just the fact that a lot of women also view it to be disgusting.

I don't think you'll really find that many women who are excited for this time of the month and embrace it.

**Most women are "hush hush" about their periods because they feel ashamed of them, they feel dirty talking about them. I don't know if this is something that has been passed down to us, or if it's our society that makes us feel dirty about them - giving us birth control options to help us skip periods, etc.

I think that the "empowering" ads for tampons are helping women to feel less shame about themselves but I think there's a long way to go in terms of *most* women being able to embrace our periods.

You ask a good question about why people view it as unclean, especially since the process enables us to conceive. I really don't know if everyone will ever grow to appreciate the monthly "flow" as much as some might like.
