Why is middle school band such a 'geek' thing?

I find it pretty weird for other schools that it is considered that, because in my middle school band is one of the funnest things to be in, going on trips to different places and all... Plus, all of the really cool, funny, friendly AND even popular kids are in band. If it's so much fun and very popular to everyone (not just nerds), then how come in almost every other school it isn't?

Other schools probably have different traditions and values, and they probably have an inferior youth music program, so fewer kids get into it. Don't worry about those f*cks from other schools, just keep doing your thing.
