Edited to add:  I didn't say "rich", I said they had money.  You can have money in the bank and not be rich.  They were not receiving welfare benefits!

They want what money can and can't buy: Power. Why did arnold swartzenagger run for governor--the same reason. When you have plenty of money, there's really nothing you don't have already, except the ultimate power that is granted in the public positions of government.

Because millions spent(or invested) is returned with Billions in profit..

eg look at Haliburton ...they spend millions on Bush campaign and now getting billions in contracts awarded to them by Bush Admin ....

( You may be confusing as typically the millions spent are actually being spent by the Lobbysts ( and not the candidate) )

Well, there must be perks beyond the salary.  Bill Clinton is a multi-millionare since he left office.  Besides he never used his money for the campaigns that money is from people trying to buy access.  What a deal.
