  1. I am no expert but common sense tells me that it's because the snow lays on the roof in the winter and you are trying to keep the heat in. The sun beats down on it in the summer and you are trying to keep the cool in.  It's less in the walls because these things don't happen as much on the walls.  Makes sense doesn't it?


  2. One reason is that heat rises and you want it to remain in the rooms, not escape to the attic. Another reason is simple. There is more room in 2x6 or 2x8 floor/ceiling joists than in 2x4 wall studs.

  3. 2 reasons.  1 in the winter heat rises and you want to prevent it escaping.

    2.  In the summer the room gets very hot when heated from the sun and you want to keep this heat out.
