  1. There are three types of mutations - beneficial, lethal & debilitating. Mutations are necessary for adaptation to: environmental / climactic changes and migration to diffrent environs with different climate, flaura and fauna, altitude etc. The Eskimoes (Innuit) are adapted to living in extreme cold environs - the Indian and Asian populations of South America (the Andes & and the Himilayas) are adapted to living in high altitudes. Their genetic configuration is slightly different to other populations living for example - in more temperate climates, lower altitudes (sea level). If mutations did not occur for these populations, they would not have survived and adapted to their respective environments. This is the nature of natural selction, mutations, genetics and ultimate survival. Those species - proto human, human, plant and animal that did not expereince beneficial mutations ultimately became - like the dodo - extinct...

  5. Mutations are the ultimate source of ALL genetic variation. However, most mutations are either neutral or deleterious (bad) and reduce the fitness of an organism. Occasionally a mutation occurs that is beneficial and increases the fitness of an individual.  

    For instance, if you have sickle cell anemia you would be immune to malaria.  Also, if you place a map consisting of the world's distribution of malaria over a map with the world's distribution of sickle cell anemia you would notice one covers the other. This is no coincidence and to some extent could be considered an "adaptive" genetic mutation.  This is the very reason why sickle cell anemia still exists today.

  6. Everything is not infinite (we all know that, including the sun itself). Mutations are necessary in order to meet the needs for responses to changes. Everything, even humans can't always expect to lead an everlasting life or generation without adapting to new things. Nature tends to acquire imbalances which thus comes the need for change to balance.

  7. with no mutations we wouldn´t become humans as we are now, we would still be apes. Or, for example, we would be the exact copies of our parents....and we would have the same children....so no there would be no evolution,  just standing at the same point....
