Why is my 10 year old cat throwing up Nutro dry cat food?

My Lynxpoint Oriental cat is throwing up regulary - it's not whole kibble but liquid. She NEVER throws up the fancy feast canned food which she gets twice a day. I'm thinking she can not digest the dry and maybe it's a good idea to try the ProPlan Feline Sensitive Stomach dry food? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for your responses to my <?>

  1. There have been problems with Nutro. Whatever the problem is, I'd get off that brand.

You're also right that dry food is difficult for cats to digest. It's good that you're also feeding wet food. So you have two options - just feed wet only or find a different dry.

You do not need to feed dry food - it doesn't clean the teeth and offers nothing that cats can't get better in canned food. But if there are other reasons you're using it, it's not the end of the world.

For dry foods, I suggest the following. Don't bother with "sensitive" formulas - they contain nothing that's of any use and more often than note they still contain things that might cause irritation.

The best of the worst - dry foods: My personal picks are Wellness Core, Innova Evo or Nature's Variety Instincts. I agree with some of the foods listed here but not all. I am happy to review ingredient lists if requested: http://cats.about.com/cs/nutrition/tp/pr...

  2. When I gave my cat steamed cooked cat food he kept throwing up abit like your cat. I changed the type of food he was eatting. Try take the ProPlan Feline Sensitive Stomach dry food, if that doesnt work, take your cat to vets.

  3. Did you suddenly switch foods on her? If you did, that's why. Cats should never be suddenly switched to a different food, same for dogs. Call Nutro's phone number on their packaging if you have specific questions about their food.

  4. I'd understand her throwing up the Fancy Feast, because it does tend to be pretty harsh on stomachs. But Pro Plan is junk. Anything by Purina is junk. Nutro is the best pet food out there, period. I've seen it turn my highly allergic dog 360 around.

    Try Blue Buffalo if anything.

  5. Yes try some food for sensitive stomachs. Proplan is not bad stuff. If cats are prone to vomiting, wet food is easier to keep down although you do want them to have some dry food if possible.

If you can't stop the vomiting within 48 hours, take the cat to a vet. Personally I would just do that now rather than turn to Yahoo Answers. If this vomiting is a new thing it could be something a lot more serious than a sensitive stomach.

    Chalice

  6. try allycat dry cat food and maybe she wont throw up anymore. my cat used to throw up like that to and we switched him and her to a different cat food (allycat) and they stopped throwing up try allycat first and see what happens.

  7. As reported by consumer affairs... Nutro has been having some allegations made against them. Maybe you should consider them more than allegations based on your own cats issues.
