Hi mummies!

my 11 months old is behaving a bit "naughty" lately!??

She started teething 10 days ago,and now she has got 1st upper tooth come through, and another one coming along.(she already got 2 lower teeth couple months ago).

Since teething, she was not as interested as before in solid food, alright, I thought that's because of teething and her gum was sore etc.

But, now she likes to "squeeze out" whatever solid i gave her? I mean, if im lucky, she would have 2-3 bites down her tummy, then she just chew on the food then squeeze it out even though its her favourite Banana??

In the beginning I thought she did this because her gum was sore.

But last few days, she did this "squeezing" thing to whatever solid i gave her, so she was not eating any solid.

Im not worried she'd be hungry as i just gave her more milk.

But what she did is really annoying as it made a lot mess?

Because she can mobile, so after she got the food in her mouth she just moved around, then without me knowing, she "squeezed out" the food somewhere on the carpet and all over her cloth!!

Can anyone tell me what is this all about??

Many thanksss

  1. Jmho, a baby will not starve herself. Don't give her more milk (to compensate for her not eating). You are creating a vicious cycle.  She might not be as hungry (which is normal around this age), but if you're giving her more milk, you're just insuring the cycle will continue.

  2. It's a good trick, and she's getting a reaction from you. If she was getting to the point of feeling extremely hungry then you would know about it, from the time they are born they know the difference between hungry and satisfied. Don't worry too much about it, unless it gets to the point where she isn't eating at all.Even at eleven months that know about self conservation.

Hope it stops, never good to have a worried mother!

  3. I think its a combination of a few things.

Her teeth hurt her so she's in a bit of pain and is acting out. She's disinterested in food too, another side effect of teething.

She could also be experimenting with her food- seeing how she can manipulate it, what happens if she does this etc, exploring the different textures etc

She'll regain her appetite soon enough, you are doing the right thing. Maybe just keep her in her high chair for her feeds until she goes through this phase.

  4. Kids that age love to experiment and play with their food. It's all part of learning about texture and the feel of the food in their mouth. It's just a phase she's going through. Hopefully it won't last long. It might help if you dont't pay much attention to it, as if you do, she'll start to do it on purpose to get a reaction. Good luck :).

  5. is she playing with the food when she squeezes it out if so she just curious as to whats just been put in her mouth if not then maybe her gums r still hurting all baby's tend to mess with there food at this age its just a way of exploring
