Question:

Why is my 2 ohm Kicker zx750.1 mono amp run so hot, connected to 2 12" JLW6's wired at 2 ohms?

The amp is mounted and raised so the fans can blow, is in an SUV so there's good airflow, I know it's wired correctly and I did my research. When ever i turn the volume up the sub will cut out and the "protection" light on my amp will blink and the amp will shut off. I can't turn my gain past 1/2 and if it's even put up that high then I have to turn the volume down lower. All I want is these subs to hit as hard as they do before the amp shuts off and be able to turn the volume up on my deck so the vocals can actually be heard. Can someone help?

  1. The amp goes it to protect because its trying to send signals to the subs that the subs cant handle. Kicker amps just run hotter than most, thats just a fact of life. To hear your vocals better you should turn down your amp on your subs, this should fix both of your problems. Try resetting your amp at the volume you usually listen to the deck, this should solve both of your problems. If you need more help or I didn't answer all your question then feel free to message me

  2. Let's start this answer with a question.  How can you wire 2 12W6's to 2 ohms?

The JL 12W6 is a dual 4 ohm sub.  If you wire both voice coils in parallel, the impedance per woofer is 2 ohm.  If you wire both woofers in parallel to the ZX750.1, the impedance to the amp is 1 ohm.

If your amp is getting hot, this has to be the reason.  The ZX750.1 is only 2 ohm stable.
