Why is my 360 making annoying sound?

i just purchased a 60gb xbox 360, and am playing madden 2009. when i turn the 360 on and inserted the disc, its making a annoying sound, its not like a beeping sound, but sounds weird i cant explain it haha. its like duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and doesnt stop. it only stopped while the 360 updated itself.

Maybe it's the disk. (I recommend you DON'T stand the console up, I did this and now my games are all scatched to the point where they barely work. Lay the console down and your disks won't be scratched to h**l)

careful the disc might be getting scratched

you might want to make it stand up or lay down depending on what stance you had it in before
