We have had our boa for 2 years now. She went through this fase about 7-8 months ago to where she hissed all the time and struch at me and my husband everytime we held her. We wash our hands when we have other sents on us. She just shed about 3 weeks ago, so it is not because she is getting ready to shed. She was that way for about 5 months and then just stoped. I walked up to her tank today and was going to hold her when she struck the glass where my hand was so hard that she now has a huge white line accross her face and she had to re-set her jaw. She has been so great lately and then this and the hissing everytime I walk by her tank. I have three other snakes and they have never done anything like this.

  1. sometimes females become very dominant- I had two albino pythons ( the orange and white ones) the male was 5 feet long and the female was 6 feet long and they began to do this because we where not interacting with them daily- I would up the food for her as this can be a sign of hunger and make sure you have daily interaction with her

  2. Colombians have the reputation of being more aggressive. Take small steps, try not handling her, but just being by the cage. Then put your hands on the cage, do not stare at her. Then touch a few things in her cage. Just take things slow and let her readjust to you. It may be just that she is going through her peak mating time when she does this. With the time difference this makes sense. Just be careful and if she looks stressed at all back off. Then try to handle her if you feel comfortable.
