Why is my Counter-Strike Source game lagging?

I've jus bought CSS and downloaded it. Whenever I join a server or create a server, it lags horribly when i start playing and moving around. I have a intel 82865g graphics controller, DirectX 10, 2.5Ghz Processor and everything else is fine. Plz help? i rly love this game.

Check to see if there are any background applications running that might slow down your internet (i.e. P2P programs, MSN).

Change your rates. You can check your rates (I think on most servers, definitely EGN) by typing "!rate" into the game (by pressing Y). It will then give you a list of codes to type into your console (by pressing `, below Esc). Insert all the codes and that should get rid of your lag.

Also, is your internet connection wireless or weak? (i.e. length from the modem, signal strength if wireless). If this is the case, you could try using a cable instead of using wireless internet because wireless internet is affected by the environment (walls, length etc).

It may also be that your internet has a usage allowance and you have exceeded this for the month. During this time your internet may be slowed resulting in lag. In this case, just wait until your internet speed is restored and everything should be fine.

There are alot better places to ask that question when i was playing that game i remember there were some console commands that helped yourperformance like setting your tick to match the server

just start searching the internet on the best CSS console settings
