Question:

Why is my Guinea Pig making this noise?

Now I know she squeaks when shes scared and purrs if she likes something because my mom had Guinea Pigs growing up.

But she makes a noise kind of like the purring sound when we put her in her cage. We just got her.

Oh, how can we tell if she's pregnant? We fear that she might be even though she was with all girls when we got her. Her stomach seems a bit bloated but it could be that she's just a chubby Guinea Pig. She is quite big.

  1. toward the end of pregnancy she will rest and eat a lot. you should be able to tell if her size increases.

at some point you can feel the babies move inside her, but be gentle. lots of vitamin c and timothy hay.

guinea pigs can get pregnant at three months of age. BUT just in case you should seperate mom and male babies at three weeks.

don't use cedar bedding, it is very bad for pigs. pine bedding is better but still no the best.

babies are born with eyes open, fully furred, and will run around in less than 24hrs after birth. make sure there is a hiding place, some kind of hutch. a shoebox is perfect. cut an entrance for them...also a window if you would like.

you may hold babies as soon as they are born if you are main caregiver. the mom usually won't mind, but if she freaks put them back

mom won't hurt or disown babies if you touch them.

there is a risk factor though, mom may die giving birth. if that happens give babies puppy formula.

  2. she purrs when u put her in her cage ok i just got a guinea pig yesterday but mine is shy still but he will get better any way if she is pregnet dont pick her up alot it could damig her babys

  3. Well, she might be happy to be going back into her cage. As for the preganancy thing, the eassiest thing to do would be to go to a vet.

  4. At first, we thought our female (sow) was pregnant, because she was rescued and had been mixed  with all different kinds of males that weren't neutered...but we had her checked out and turned out she was not pregnant. I

If your piggy is pregnant, she probably won't move a whole lot. My guinea pigs purr when as soon as they get back in the cage too.

Also, if the nipples are swelled up, that could indicate coming pups. Good luck!

P.S. Don't worry, the mom will not die! This is EXTREMELY uncommon. She will need to drink a lot so make sure she has water. That is another sign...drinking frequently.
