Question:

Why is my HCG level rising if my cervix is open? Will I definitely miscarry? Could I have a healthy pregnancy?

I am early pregnant (about 3-4 weeks) and was diagnosed with a miscarriage at the ER a week ago. This was mostly based on a low HCG count of 82, an open cervix, and heavy, red bleeding with clots. Very, very minor cramping. Naturally, we didn't see anything on the ultrasounds because of how early I am. I tested today for an HCG level of 500. The bleeding is pretty much non existent. Why is my HCG continuing to rise right on target? Could I still be pregnant with an open cervix and bleeding? Or, am I facing an ectopic or blighted ovum situation? I go again for testing on Wednesday and for sonogram/ultrasound on Friday... just curious if I could be pregnant. Thanks!

  1. you could still be pregnant yes, u could have had twins even, I've heard of this too. My doctor told me today that some woman bleed then carry on to have a normal baby.... i would wait it out and keep checking your HCG levels and ultrasounds. Ask your doctor at your next appointment if your cervix is still open or not. Don't do a D&C until u are 100% it has happened. If your HCG is rising that may be a good thing for you...stay off your feet as much as possible and take it easy. Good luck to you....

  2. With n open cervix a pregnancy cannot and will not continue. Sorry for your loss
