I just got Emelia two days ago, and last night she was put in her pen, but just a few hours ago (at 6:25 in the morning) she woke me up with stomping and darting about. I let her out and she darted under my bed and quickly thumped her foot about ten times! I don't know what's wrong.., she has fresh Timothy Hay and bedding and toys, maybe she was just sick of being in her cage? But what can I do?

Also just a few minutes ago she was doing binkys and jumping around all happy, and then she darted under my bed and thumped again!

What could be the cause of this?

  1. hello there

Rabbits thump their hind feet to signal danger. Some rabbits will thump one foot on the ground, some will thump both hind feet at the same time. Rabbits aren't very vocal so thumping is their way of communicating. Usually this means they have heard something odd and it could be potentially harmful e.g.. A cat outside the door. Sometimes when you surprise rabbits they will thump at you to show their displeasure at being caught unawares. Thumping can also be an expression of displeasure, for example "Don't ever pick me up and hug me ever again!".
