Why is my I-485 VIsa application taking so long?

My documents( Form I-485) were received by the USCIS on May 18, 2007. I currently have a Working Permit but I haven't received my green card yet. In the chart at the USCIS site it says that they are processing at vthis time the forms that were presented up to July 2007. Any inside information on this will be really appreciated.

  1. Expect it to take about 6 months before you have your interview and another 6 months after that to get the green card in the mail.

  2. It may take longer than usual. I applied in August 2005, until now,  my green card is not yet out.

  3. The processing time indicated by USCIS is only an informational guideline, not a definite benchmark you can use to determine when your green card application will be adjudicated.

Unfortunately I-485s can take years in some cases and it sounds like you are one of those cases that take longer. It's rather unpredictable but it happens.

Have you checked your case status online? You can go to www.uscis.gov and enter your receipt number in the bottom-right corner. If that's no help, you could call USCIS and ask a live person for a status update.
