Question:

Why is my JL 13w7 not hitting as hard as other systems with close to the same watts or even less?

I have a JL 13w7 in ported box powered by a rockford T20001bd amp, a 20 farad cap and an alpine 9887. The box is built to spec as well. I heard my friends 2 alpine 15 inch Type-R's at about pushing about 1000 watts and it was considerably louder than my 13w7.

  1. Watts doesn't matter. It's just a number that people like to advertise, because it sounds important, and is good for bragging. And that's about all it's useful for.

What really matters, is the type of enclosure you have, the quality of the sub you have, the volume of space the subs are in, the type of sound deadening you have, etc, etc, etc.

Nevermind that he has two subs, and you only have one. Regardless of power output, you have two subs pushing out sound, instead of one.

Same reason that two people talking, sounds louder than one. Even if the actual volume of each person is the same.

  2. there are a few factors @ work here. first of all the surface area of the 2 "15's is going to give him alot more air movement. but the major factor is going to be how the two systems are tuned and the quality of the equiptment. how differently are the eq's set in the two vehicles?? not only on the radios but also on the amps. how differently are the boxes bulit?? is one ported or vented and the other sealed?? what type of amp or amps is your friend running?? does he have aa capacitor or an upgraded electrical system?? all of these factors come into play when comparing two systems sound for sound. if they are set pretty close you should be able to get close to him as far as sound wise

  3. Simple....You went with the top of the line JL subs and got a P>O>S> amp..Put a Jl 1000/1 amp on that sub and hold on..
