Why is my Kodak C633 6.1 MP camera not turning on?

Yeah so I have the Kodak C633 6.1 MP Camera and it has not been turning on. I have only used the thing maybe a dozen times since I bought it last year. I put new batteries in it and all yet it still doesn't turn on! Every now and then it goes on, the power light flashes green then red and shuts off again. If you have the reason or solution to this problem please let me know! Thanks

  1. It's a Kodak. People who sell (like me) know how bad they are.

What's wrong is Kodak's own electronics. The battery meter isn't working properly (very common). It's telling the camera the battery is low, despite it being new. This is warranty covered, so see if you can get it replaced. Kodak typically doesn't bother fixing their cameras. Call the store you bought it from to see if they will replace it.

It could be that a battery leaked and damaged the circuitry. This is very rare with name brand batteries, but common with Kodak and "mystery" brand batteries (go figure eh). If so, you'll see some white gunk on the battery terminals and the batteries. If so, try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip.  This is not warranty covered.

Rechargeable batteries will not help your situation. Consider them only if they replace your camera, but only buy Ni-MH ones. NiCD was bad and AlkalineRAM (sometimes called Alkaline Rechargables) are prone to leaking.

If you can't get your camera fixed or replace for free buy a new one. Don't get another Kodak. Pay a bit more for a Panasonic or Nikon. Believe me it's worth it. Shy away from the Canon A series, they're iffy, but the expensive SD or S series with IS aren't too bad. Also, but from a good camera store. a good store should have over 40 models (that's right 40) models to pick from. They'll usually handle warranties on your behalf too (just in case).

Best of luck, happy shooting (not people, photos! =D)
