Question:

Why is my Leopard Gecko so hostile?

I have a had a leopard gecko for about 3 months and she still hasn't settled into her home. She is skittish, doesnt eat if Im there (although the crickets etc that I put in the cage seem to be eaten) and snaps at my hand if i put it in her cage.

I originally had 2 geckos but one had Krypto Disease and had to be returned. This one has never settled since and I am worried that her progress won't move on.

I have seen others of the same age and they are playful and receptive to food being put in their cage. They also are inquisitive about your hands and do not behave erratic or hostile towards it...

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be wrong? I know it could be very easy for those of you to say "maybe this one has Krypto Disease too?" but I have thought of that and I don't think this is the case...

any suggestions?

  1. Maybe get her another friend. Maybe she misses her buddy.

Or, honestly, if it boils down to it, take her to the vet to get checked just in-case. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I've never heard of Krypto disease, but maybe she does have it. I know you didn't wanna hear that, but it is a possibility. Especially if she was contained in the same housing with the contamintaed one.

    Good luck.

  2. If she had crypto, she'd be dead by now.  She does NOT miss her "buddy."  They are solitary creatures, and not all of them are friendly.  Just let her settle in some more and start by just putting your hand in the cage and letting her sniff and l**k you.  Not all want to be taken out (I have one that bites).  She may just be one of those that isn't friendly.

  3. it could be that its just its personality

    or

it wasnt handled enough from birth

the only thing you can do it handle it slowly and more and more
