Question:

Why is my Marantz Reciever from 1997 reseting itself.?

I bought a brand new Digital A/V receiver back in 1997 and never ever had a problem with it. Until this month. Every time I shut it off, it resets itself. All my preset FM stations are gone and the volume turn to off and well you have to set it all up again ever time you turn it on.

Any reason this might be happening. It is 11 years old, so is about time to trade it in or is 11 years still to young to get rid of it? What is the average lifespan of an A/V reciever?

Any help would be great.

  1. well, without some more information it sounds like either the power supply has lost the portion that maintains its memory settings or a internal battery has lost it's life. a stereo shop( a good one) should be able to either soldier in a new battery or replace the power supply, if your in love with your amp...but 11 years is a long life for modern electronics. you may want a new one as technology has shot past your current unit.

  2. Most likely the internal memory is shot.  11 years on a marantz is a pretty good run.  I would probably look into replaceing it rather then fixing it, a new reciever is going to give you a much better sound.  Just so you know marantz is still around and still makes good recievers.

  3. Sounds like your memory on the receiver is shot. Or the power supply for retaining the memory is shot (either a battery or a super capacitor). That depends wether the type of memory is a volatile storage media or a non volatile storage media. Either way the the problem is with the memory. It could probably be fixed and may not be that expensive.

Is it Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS? If it is, it might be worth fixing. If it is not you may want to replace it anyway.

Marantz is now owned by a company in Japan kown as D&M Holdings. D&M holding also own Mcintosh, Denon, Snell, and Boston Acoustics to name a few.

It is still a Quality product.

  4. Do you turn the power off (or unplug it) ? Maybe it needs some power to save the memory settings.
