  1. Some memory is reserved by the kernel. You are left with 990MB of available user-space memory.

You'll be able to run your game just fine with 990MB. It's not going to fail just because you're short a few megabytes.

Also, why did you capitalize every single word of your question? Didn't it feel a little weird hitting shift before typing every word?

  2. Maybe your PC is over packed... well sometimes these **** happen because when i bought my 8gb ipod and when i turned it on there was 7.4gb i don't know what that was about. You can try buying more memory

  3. Programs installed on your computer use RAM when they are running. Even if you don't have that program physically open, if it's running in the background, then it's using RAM on your computer. For example, security software uses RAM, which is always running in the background if you have it set up properly. If your gaming software requires 1 GB of RAM, I would recommend installing more memory. RAM cards are a lot less expensive than they used to be. And if you haven't upgraded your RAM on your computer since purchasing it, chances are there is a lot of room for more. Try going to Crucial.com. That site can help you with how much RAM you can install on your specific computer. Although 1GB is a decent amount of RAM, at least 2 GB would be better. Hope this helps you!

  4. its a virus

  5. This happened to me for a game that needs a 1.5gb ram it says mine is 1.4gb so all i have to do was buying a cheap 512 ram or higher.

    - I am not an expert but it looks like pc takes some space from your

    ram

  6. Well, you are USING some of ram, so, "1gb of ram" isnt AVAILABLE :)

  7. 1GB is the minimum for the game to run. So if you have 1GB on the nose you will be playing tight to begin with. Also on some systems (on-board video) some of your RAM gets used for video ram. The game req's state that a minimum of 128M video card is needed to play. So if indeed your Ram is "shared" between the system and video you will not get the full 1GB to use for the system. (1024-128=896).

    Hope this helps

  8. A common occurrence of this would be a shared video card utilizing the system ram. However, depending on how old your system is, this doesn't appear to be the case. Do you have shared video? or an independent video card?

  9. Sounds like about ~32mb is going to integrated video.

  10. Windows uses a bit of ram so that's where most of the ram has gone.

  11. bring it to a computer store. there might be something wrong with your RAM, in which case you might have to buy new + more RAM

  12. Your video card uses some of your RAM.

  13. It probably means AVAILABLE ram. Just buy another 1GB, they're really cheap.

  14. This is kind of expected I guess with most of the computers

Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access called as memory-mapped I/O (MMIO). For the MMIO space to be available to 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside within the first 4 GB of address space.

For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. In your case, say you had 1 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.

The reduction in available system memory depends on the devices that are installed in the computer. If a computer has many installed devices, the available memory may even more reduced

Also if some game requires 1GB minimum, I don't know if you can truly enjoy the game with barely 1GB. Anyways, good luck!

  15. the reason is beacuse your video card eats up some of your memory since its a shared video card and not dedicated. thats normal.

  16. it is the way that is is registered but you still have 1 gig
