My ac just started leaking about 2 days ago. I have a bucket to collect the water paced under the ac. My carpet is soaked because the leak started when i was at work. I have cleaned my carpet but i want to know why it is leaking so much. SOmeone told me it's because it suppose to be tilted but i have never had this problem before. I tried to tilt it but then mist was spitting out of the vent. What do i do?

  1. Fist of all, is it a window unit?  if yes, they have small holes on the bottom of the unit part that sits outside for the water to leak out.  Check to see if there is debree of leaves blocking the wholes.  If you cannot see the holes, you could try washing off debree by flooding it with water, but make sure all power is off, and also make sure that the unit is in fact tilted at least slightly down towads the ouside of your house so that water does not run back in to your hose.

  2. It sounds like the main drain for the a/c is plugged.

You'll need to un-clog it somehow.  Draino won't work for this.  Try a wet-dry vacuum and suck the water up from where the drain is.  This might suck the blockage out.

    Good luck!!

  3. Most likely your a/c is not cycling properly which will cause frost to build up when you shut it off this allows it to defrost causing it to leak.  Check to make sure your exhaust is switched to closed.

  4. The condensation drain line on your A/C unit is clogged. Unclog it.

  5. outside holes are blocked

  6. it's either a clogged drain or your indoor coil is icing over due to impropper air flow across the coil. FIRST THING, check and replace your air filter. also a low refrigerant charge can cause an evap coil to ice over. if your coil isnt icing over, you have a clogged drain line. ive heard some people use a bleach solution to clean the line. i use compressed air and sometimes, a clothes hanger.
