Why is my air cooler smelling?

i have an air cooler from b&q and it smells like mouldy cheese when you put it on to use, have had it about 5 years, gave it a good clean but the smell seems to be comming from some sort of material at the back can anyone help,

  1. Take the unit apart and take it to a car wash and give it a good power wash.  Make sure you do not plug unit back in until its completely dry most likely there is still some residue from the BBQ where you purchased it and just needs to be cleaned out doubtful but possible its been 5 years.  Just take cabinet casing off and look around it may also be just moldy if just started for the year.  Good Luck


  2. the smell is bacteria go to your local climate centre and purchase some evaporator coil cleaner and disinfectant and give the cooler a good clean with the disinfectant and all your smells will be gone.

  3. the smell is caused by dust and bacteria buildup on the cooling coils.

  4. Does it have a filter, perhaps that needs changing.

  5. its just the house?
