Why is my at&t u-verse bill coming so high?

on the charges section it shows a few boxes on top of the paper and one of them says

Balance - past due, please pay immediately $155.16

the total is coming out to 243.55

under the boxes it says a past due collection fee of $5 will be assessed if payment is late not $155

Looks like you did not pay some previous bills.

It is not unocommon to be charged late fees and/or interest for past due amounts.
