  1. Make sure you stay low on the RPMs (don't accelerate quickly)

If that doesn't help, you may be having another problem. Possibly the oxygen sensor.

  2. You got suckered by the salesman.  There is no way an Aveo can get 35mpg in city driving unless you use extreme hypermiling techniques like timing stop lights and extreme coasting.

The EPA says the 2008 Aveo gets 24mpg in the city:  http://www.fueleconomy.gov/f*g/compx2008...

Even under the more unrealistic old EPA mpg ratings, the Aveo doesn't get any more than 26mpg in city driving.

Whoever told you the Aveo gets 35mpg in the city is lying through his teeth.

Caveat emptor--  Buyer beware.  NEVER trust the salesman.

  3. Release the emergency brake and unhook the 5th wheel trailer.

  4. First check to make sure that everything is up to date on your car and in working order (no gas leaks etc). Then if everything is in working order, how do you usually drive? The chevy aveo has a 24 city/34 highway estimate. If you are driving your card harder or faster then expected, it can also lower this down.

  5. That means you drive more aggresively are too fast for the car.

For example, if you drive fast in a Toyota Prius, you will get worse gas mileage than a V8 BMW M3 going at the same speed.

You need to drive slowly because the car has a weak, small engine. It is only good on gas at slow acceleration and speed.
