I am hand feeding three gouldian finches. One of them died yesterday and now another one looks sick and his crop is full of air. I have burped him and all the air will go and when I go check on him 1/2 an hour later it is filled with air again. His eyes look closed and he seems really slow. The other one looks fine. I have been hand feeding them for over a week with no problems and now this.

  1. Sounds like sour crop or crop stasis. IF can get to avian vet asap. Until then keep warm but needs med attention for this.

  2. Hello.

Sound like the baby has sour crop ( which meant it can't digest the baby food properly . ) The survivor chance is very slim . Do you have a brooder lamp with a jar of water in the brooder for them ? They need the heat to help digest the food . If you need more info, email me and I can show you how , but as of right now, I don't think the one has air would survive , because finch is so small , when they go down, it does not take long to go down ( to get sick and to die ) . I no longer breed finches , but I had 3 years experiences with 800  finches and 10 kinds ( including lady gouldians , owl , strawberry ...)  .  TM.
