Question:

Why is my betta laying down in the tank most of the time?

It only swims up when I approach the tank, or turn on the lights. The betta is eating fine. The tank is heated and filtered. It doesn't look diseased. No ick fungus or any that I can see. Is this normal? He's like a bottom dweller, lol.

  1. Yes, I am pretty sure It is absolutly normal... I don't really know if that sentence made sense though. Anyways I have had alot of Betta fish and all of them have done that. After all, there fish all they really can do is swim around or stay in that one place. Alot of them only swim up to the top of the tank when they are about to get food.

There is probably nothing wrong with it, my cousins fish did the exact thing and it survived for 5 years which is really very long for a betta fish.

  2. This is VERY normal for a betta. Like people, Bettas have personalities... yours sounds like a very mellow fish. I have had almost 20 bettas and they are each different, ive had a few like yours. he is fine, good thing he eats. if you want to get action, try placing a mirror next to his tank. he will flare at his reflection, giving him exercise which will prevent unhealthy weight gain. good luck!!!
