  1. i think your bird has issues.  i suggest you take it to a avain psychiatrist

  2. is it a a parakeet? or what? just keep it far away but still show it to him/her and soon she should be ok with it.

  3. Wish you'd have said if this bird is new for you  and species, age, Etc.

New thing's are often threatening to birds.Toy's included, and food even.

Introduce new objects slowly and over time from afar.

Never walk to a caged bird before talking so it know's you are coming..and don't let stranger's either.

A frightened bird is a stressed bird and your job as care taker is to protect and befriend the bird.

  4. honestly, the reason it is scared, is because it has no clue what it is your holding, just keep the object in full sight of the bird, somewhere away from the cage, so that it can see it wont hurt it.

after a day or two you can move the object closer to the cage.

and then in another day, move it closer again, and again, and again.

keep doing the same thing untill it become comfortable with it.

but please make sure it sees you hold it and move it!!!

you do not want to go out there in the midle of the night and strap it to its cage, only for it to wake up thinking its being "attacked".

also, you can hold the object in one arm as you pet and praise the bird, with the other.

  5. My Cockatoo does the same thing. She hates it when I put my hand into her cage, but when she's out she hangs out and gives me kisses. She also hates it when I set her perch up. She freaks out and makes a run for it, but I try talking to her in a soft calm voice and then put her on top of the perch to show her that it will not hurt her. She's fine after wards, but I would try giving your bird a treat and try talking to him/her in a soft voice. Some animals are afraid of certain things because they are not used to seeing them. She/he has to get used to the item. Try leaning it or putting it on the side of the bird's cage. Show your bird that the item isn't going to hurt them. The bird may also think the item its going to hurt you and the bird may be warning you. Birds view their owners as being part of their flock and birds will look out for their family members/friends. The bird may be doing the same thing for you. I know my one bird does, especially one day when he tried fighting off my sister when we were having one of our arguments. He was attacking her face and he wouldn't stop until she backed off. After that my sister has never messed with me, especially when he's out of his cage. There have been stories where birds have saved their owners lives, but try putting the item on the side of their cage and give them a treat. Also, talk to your bird in a soft and soothing voice, that usally calms my birds down. Just relax because your bird can also sense when your uptight and nervous, and they'll react the same way too. They may be scared or they may be trying to protect you, just observe their body language and you'll notice what spooks him/her. I hope I helped and Good Luck!!!
