Why is my blood pressure still high on meds?

I take 30 mg of Propranolol and my blood pressure averages 120-130 to 85-93..I was put on this medication for palpatations and blood pressure. My palpataions are gone but I feel that it's not keeping my blood pressure under control. My heart doctor told me that my readings were fine and not to worry about it. Do you agree? Now, when I lay in bed resting my bp drops to like 107-120 70-77 Do I need to worry about my bp?

  1. Blood pressure is always lower when you are at rest. It is also different when you are sitting or standing too.  The average bp is 120/80.  A little lower or higher is not much to worry about. But when it is over 200 on the top number and over 100 on the bottom number then you should worry. Those numbers are stroke ranges.

  2. Blood pressure depends on two main factors: your heart and peripheral resistance, that's why it rises if you have palpitation.Be calm - stress (of what ever cause) can cause palpitation and increases resistance. Do not consume too much salt (beware of 'hidden salt' in snacks) and do regular exercise (walking leisurely) or meditation to calm your mind.

  3. Don't worry I think you are just fine.  Your pressure should go down when you lay down.  If you took more meds your bp would go down to low.  So relax!

  4. I agree with your doctor. Your bp isn't that bad. Worrying about it will cause your bp to rise.

    I've been on Inderal/propanolol for 30 years.

  5. Good control
