Question:

Why is my briggs and stratton keep poping black soot out the exhaust and the mower is very vibraty?

i have put some briggs & stratton fuel stabliser in the fuel and thats when it started to pop little clouds of black smoke out the exhause every few seconds when the engine revs up thanks hope someone can help me out

  1. Change the oil, your old oil is thinning out.

    adjust the carb while mower is running by turning adjustment s***w in till mower starts to die then turn out a 1/4 to a 1/2 a turn, muffler will continue to puff from time to time until carbon is gone.


  2. I would remove the fuel and add straight gas. You have probably added too much stabilizer.

  3. Probably needs servicing

  4. The black smoke indicates the engine is running rich, receiving too much fuel. You may need to adjust the carburetor. Here's a link that may help:

  5. It will be de-coking the exhaust pipe. The vibrations may be the crank is not being properly lubricated. You need to use a mineral based oil with fuel stabilisers

  6. you say it vivbrates, you may hit something with the blade running , you  better check the flywheel key ,it sounds that its out of time a little making the engine run rich.
