Question:

Why is my cable internet connection so sluggish?

On tests, my connection registers between 15-30mbit/s download, and about 4mbit/s upload. However, it sometimes takes 10-30 or so seconds to load simple web pages. I've tried to use numerous programs to attack spyware etc. and also removed my router and cable splitter. Any ideas?

  1. nice speeds - one thing to remember is every website is coming across the internet goes through multiple servers/routers/switches etc... (hops) that's going to cause latency. In addition it has to be processed on your PC's end which can be more complicated with everything there is today (Flash, Dynamic HTML, CSS, etc.....)

Shut down everything running on your PC and compare

  2. Do you have a wireless router on your network?  There may be someone freeloading on your internet connection.

Also, Cable broadband, unlike DSL shares it's bandwidth with your neighbors.  If you have a neighbor that is downloading movies and other big files, it will affect your performance.

And of course, you can try running a TCP optimizer to tweek your network settings.  (g..gle it)

  3. restart your modem restart your router if it still happens go go what comcast?? is that what you got go to their website and click on online help and choose internet and ask them for restart your modem from their side and it should work

  4. Do you do regular maintenance on your computer? Delete temporary files and cookies in internet explorer and also empty the Windows Prefetch folder regularly. Start>Mycomputer>double click to open your hard drive>open the Windows folder>find the Prefetch folder and open it. Select everything in it and delete. You will be surprised. There is a lot more you can do. I'll email you.
