  1. I have that camera in front of me now. When you look at the upper right corner of the display you should see a little square with  SD which stands for secure digital memory. If you don't see this, the SD is not being recognized by the camera.

From the information you gave it would seem that your camera is not recognizing the SD card.  Don't know if it could be in upside down, but check that out by opening the battery door and removing the batteries for at least one minute to allow the camera to reset or restore to the original settings.

To check the memory position, with lens up, LCD display down, and battery door to your right; remove the memory.  The electrical contacts should be up and the lock switch on the side of the SD should be toward the end of the SD that goes into the camera first. The electrical contacts go in the camera first and these should be up.

It sounds like your camera is only using the internal memory.

Clean the camera and battery contacts as described in the first link below and make sure your batteries are charged. Digital Cameras require lots of power. If the contacts are not really good it can cause lots of problems even if the batteries have a full charge.

If your camera does not work after all of the above, you may want to get help at a good camera store.  Also, your camera may be out of warranty, but you can still get help from HP chat support at the second source link below.

  2. First make sure you are saving your images to the card, not the internal memory.  Use your cameras menu and make sure the camera is sending the image files to the memory card.

Next did you format the card before you used it using the cameras format feature?
