Why is my capacitor draining?

i bought a cap and was trying to install it, it says to charge the cap before installing it or it could cause damage to the amp. i charged the cap off the battery and matched the voltage to the battery and then took it off to take it to the trunk and install it, just after i took it off the battery the voltage started to drop and then completely drains. do i have a bad cap or am i doing something wrong. i was told i could just go ahead and install it between the amp and battery without charging it and it will charge , but then why does it say to charge it before installing.

  1. that is fine it is suppose to do that charge it again you can actually do it on the amp the power connection and the ground it will drop but as soon as you do the final install it will fully charge so dont worry you have a good cap

the reason you charge it is so if you try to install it so it wont spark real bad so your good
