Why is my car idoling so high and how to fix it?

since i bought my car over 2 years ago it idols high when i start it for a few minutes then it goes down but it just now started to stay idoling high from 3000 rpm's when i start it to 2200 even a half hour after i start it and it used to go down to 700 after a while. i have a 93 mazda mx6 and i'm wondering what is wrong with it, is it really bad for my car, and how can i fix it

  1. Not sure about your specific model but most cars have an electronic idle control module. Consult a repair manual specific to your car for more info. By the way is there a "check engine" light illuminated on the dash? This would indicate some sensor or electronic control is most likely bad.


  2. check the airways of the car, idle problems are mainly caused due to vaccuum lines...intakes etc...
