Question:

Why is my car insurance so high?

I was wondering how the h**l progressive could've swithed my birthdate with my dad's who is dead! They told me last week it would cost me $817 for 6 months of insurance on my 07 Pontiac G5.

I'm 22, I've had a DUI but I researched it and it doesn't really add up more than 10 dollars more on the insurance on their website. I got an email today saying it would be $1,362 for 6 months... which is roughly $252 a month for insurance.

Is there anyway I can lower this at all? I work full time and may consider a 28 hour a week part time job while going to school part-time

Insane? I guess so. Any help?

  1. well with a dui and being only 22 with a 2door coupe.  you fall into one of the most expensive groups for insurance.

its cost me 800 for 6 months on my 2002 s2000

and i have a clean driving record and im 28.

a dui increase alot more than 10 a month.

also if they used your dads birthbate and then corrected it thats prob where most of the increase comes from.

  2. I'm 26 clean record.

    2 cars pay $41 month...

    91 honda accord

    96 jetta:)

    I go use DASHERS.

    Also try COS -U-LESS

    Im in california....

  3. A DUI will cost you FAR more than $10 a month on insurance.

The DUI is why your insurance jumped up so high, that isn't a minor offense. DUI + new 2 door (?) coupe = very high insurance.

  4. You are kidding yourself if you think that a DUI only adds $10 month!

Its a serious offence, and you are considered to be a huge risk to the insurance company. Particularly being under 30 and owning a coupe.

Try phoning around but I cant see you doing much better.

I have had performance cars most of my driving career, but have never been fined. I'm in Australia, but the most I have ever paid a year for insurance was about $1400 a year on a car insured for $25,000.

Its all to do with your history, your age and what you drive.

  5. You have possibly bought the first insurance you have been offered without having a shop around to see if you could find a cheaper place to insure from.

  6. Its because you had a DUI, notice how i'm stating the obvious here?

  7. Have you had any accidents in the past? Look up any accidents you might have had.

That could also be the reason it's up. Did you change your birthdate back to your own? I always thought women had it difficult with insurance. They are always quite high with us. And don't say that it's because we cause the wrecks.

Your age could also have something to do with the high insurance. Check to see what you don't need on your insurance. That would lower some of your payments. Or look up other insurance quotes in case they don't work out.
