Why is my cat's behavior changing?

I adopted a very mellow cat from the shelter at 5 years old. I've had him for a year and we lived in my little apartment. I recently moved back into my parents significantly larger house for the next 3 months before the cat and i move overseas. he loves my parent's apartment as its bigger and in a quiet suburb. he even tries to get outside.

that said, his behavior has been changing significantly. he isn't as cuddley anymore and he wriggles around and scratches when he's being picked up.

i am concerned and don't like this new behavior. any idea as to what is causing this?

  1. I've had my oldest cat through 2 houses and 3 apartments, across 3 states and his behavior has been a bit different in each home.  He never wanted nearly as much to do with me when we'd visit my parents' house, he preferred to spend his time tormenting their older male cat and wandering around in their yard (we built a cat fence years ago that held them in safely).  But then he'd be back to his normal self once we left.

He has changed now because there are a lot of other cats and another person. But he's still sweeter than he was during the visits.

Sorry for the long story but that's why I think your kitty will probably be closer to normal once you both move out again.  Now he has lots of other things to do and doesn't want to miss something interesting. He could also be stressed from the move and from living someplace different and living with more people.  Cats can be really sensitive to change.  Either way, once you both get settled in at the new place he'll probably be more like his old self.

  2. he is still getting used to the change in enviorment! If he doesnt seem to be imporiving try going to the vet.

  3. Its totally different for him, new home and people, they need time to settle in, just give him time and patience, and he is probably picking up different "vibes" from you too!!

  4. maybe hes just excited for the new house...or maybe hes just trying to get used to the house...i hope this helped...
