Question:

Why is my cat constantly hungry?

My cat is very small but demands food constantly! She demands food constantly and is never full. I feed her about a can a day. Today, she knocked over the trash can, ate through the garbage bag, and licked the empty cans of cat food. I'm concerned that there is something wrong with the cat. My last cat had diabetes; one of the symptoms was an uncontrollable appetite.

  1. I have also heard that cats that have worms seem to want to eat a lot. You might want to consult your vet.

  2. Do not feed your cat a lot. That's how my cat was when I had to reduce his food because he was a little overweight. Now he is used to it. It could be a sign of boredness also. Keeping your cat busy is a good idea. Try playing with your cat to get her mind off food! Well, I hope I helped!

  3. you need to consult a vet.  The cat should not be eating an entire can of cat food in a day - that is too much and too rich.

  4. take him to a vet

  5. Are you leaving dry food down for her it sounds like she is really hungry

  6. Cats, according to my vet, should have about an ounce of food per pound of body weight each day.  Maybe you should weigh the cat and if she is over six pounds, one can per day, might not be enough food.  Also, you could leave out good quality dry food for her to eat, if she likes it.

  7. Well, to be sure, you should take her in make sure she does not have worms or any medical condition that may affect her appetite. However, one can a day may not be enough food for her. Also, does she get sufficient “you/owner” time? There are some cats that, because they don’t get enough attention from their owners, use meal times as a way to gain it back. If you are feeding her can food, instead of leaving out dry food, she could just be demanding time spent with you. And I can’t help saying it because I thought it was funny at the time. But, Warren Eckstein, a popular talk show pet expert once reminded his listeners that cats can’t go get a can an open a can of food for themselves. So, if we have an overweight cat, it’s really our fault, lol. Anyway, be sure not to give in too much is all I mean. Take care.

  8. worms

  9. You should really have her seen by a vet.  Get her checked out completely.  That means her blood, weight, and also for worms.  Don't waste time playing a guessing game with her health.  Go and find out once and for all.  It may be something simple like an increase in her food or the quality is all that is needed but what if it is something more such as her thyroid and the longer you wait the worse or harder it will be to fix?

    Good luck  xo

  10. If she is a kitten, she may need more than just 1 can of food a day. Try mixing in some dry food with the wet. That should sustain her for longer than just straight wet food. Also, it's possible she may have worms, worms eat the food from their intestine before their body has a chance to absorb it, so that may be the problem. Hope that helped :)

  11. she might have worms. does she f**t alot? my cat ate like he hadnt eating in weeks and was always hungry and farted alot. I took him to the vet and he had tape worm. tape worm is caused by fleas and they get it but l*****g themselves and then sometimes the accidently swallow the flee. take her to the vet.
